Cairo, October 26 (KUNA) – Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy stressed on Monday the importance of intensifying efforts to end the war in Sudan and creating an enabling environment for launching an inclusive national dialogue involving all Sudanese political forces, in order to preserve the country’s unity and sovereignty and achieve peace and stability.

This came during two meetings held by Fahmy as part of his visit to Sudan, where he met with Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and members of the Sudanese Dialogue Preparation Committee, according to a statement issued by the Arab League.

The statement added that the meeting with al-Burhan covered developments in Sudan, efforts to end the war, and the role of the Arab League in supporting political, humanitarian, and developmental tracks, as well as backing Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and the integrity of its national institutions, while rejecting all parallel state structures.

It further clarified that Fahmy also discussed with members of the Dialogue Preparation Committee their role in facilitating consultations among Sudanese and creating conditions for launching an inclusive national dialogue, alongside continuing consultations on concerns and arrangements necessary to ensure the success of the political process.

The meeting also addressed ways to link the Sudanese national initiative with the consultations of the Quintet mechanism, which includes the Arab League, the African Union, the United Nations, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the European Union.

Emphasis was placed on the importance of supporting Sudanese initiatives aimed at ending the war and achieving peace and stability, as well as meeting the aspirations of the Sudanese people. (End) M.M. / M.A.H.A.
