Aden, October 24 (KUNA) — Yemen warned on Saturday that attacks on Aden Airport threaten the safety of civil aviation, the security of passengers and staff, and have humanitarian and economic repercussions for citizens, particularly patients, students, expatriates, and travelers. This was stated in a statement by Yemen’s Ministry of Transport, which condemned the Houthi militia’s targeting of Aden International Airport with two ballistic missiles for the fourth time in October. The ministry called on the international community, the United Nations, and relevant international civil aviation organizations, foremost among them the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), to take measures to ensure the protection of civil airports and hold accountable those responsible for endangering civilian lives. It noted that the attack on the airport is part of a series of assaults on vital civilian infrastructure serving citizens, travelers, and patients, emphasizing that Aden International Airport, as a civilian facility used for transporting civilians, humanitarian aid, and medical evacuations, is protected under international law. The statement stressed the necessity of keeping airports, civilian facilities, and service infrastructure out of conflicts, in accordance with relevant international laws and agreements, including those governing civil aviation safety and the protection of civilian infrastructure. Earlier on Saturday, the Houthi militia targeted Aden International Airport and two Yemeni Coast Guard headquarters in the temporary capital of Aden with several ballistic missiles, as part of ongoing and repeated attacks over recent weeks using ballistic missiles and drones that have struck civilian facilities and residential areas in the governorates of Aden, Lahij, Taiz, Hadhramaut, and Marib.
