Islamabad, Oct 23 (KUNA) -- The Pakistani military announced on Friday the death of at least ten militants in a security sweep carried out by security forces in Balochistan province in the southwest of the country. The Public Relations Directorate of the Pakistani military said in a statement that “the militants attempted to carry out terrorist operations in the Gwadar area, specifically around the Gabd border crossing in Balochistan.” The statement added that “by targeting these sites, the terrorists sought to harm the local population, whom they claim to represent, and to obstruct the development and prosperity of Balochistan.” It reported that to protect the population and clear the area, security forces launched sweep operations inside Gwadar city and its surroundings, engaging in clashes that foiled the militants’ plans and their attempts to undermine state authority and advance their agenda. It noted that during the ensuing exchange of fire, ten militants were killed, one civilian lost his life, and several vehicles were damaged. (End) S.B.K./R.J.
