Aden, October 22 (KUNA) -- Yemeni Shabwa Governor Awad ibn al-Wazir confirmed on Thursday the killing of two soldiers and the injury of several other security force members in an attack by the so-called Al-Qaeda organization targeting the Khura center in the Murkhah al-Sufli district of the province. The state-owned Yemeni News Agency (Saba) quoted ibn al-Wazir as saying that the succession of attacks following the Houthi militia’s assault on security forces confirms “collusion between the Houthi militias and Al-Qaeda,” adding that both sides “pose a security threat to the province and Yemen as a whole.” He expressed surprise at the “coincidence and complementarity of operations targeting Shabwa in recent days, given the convergence in the roles of the Houthi militia and Al-Qaeda, aimed at destabilizing the security situation and undermining stability.” He stressed that these attacks would not deter the local authority leadership, security apparatus, and military forces from continuing their efforts to protect the province and safeguard its gains and interests, noting that necessary measures are being taken to enhance security and stability, pursue those involved, and hold them accountable. Ibn al-Wazir praised the sacrifices of security and military personnel and their roles in confronting terrorist threats, affirming that their sacrifices serve as a motivation to enhance readiness and field capabilities to counter risks. The attack comes days after the Houthi militia targeted a recruit training center for security services in Shabwa province, eastern Yemen, with several ballistic missiles, killing 75 soldiers and wounding nearly 200 others, according to a figure released by the provincial local authority.
