Istanbul, August 22 (KUNA) -- The foreign ministers of seven regional and European countries will meet in Istanbul tomorrow, Friday, to discuss a number of regional issues, foremost among them the Palestinian question, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, developments related to Yemen, and efforts to find a solution to the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The Turkish news agency Anadolu reported on Thursday, citing sources in the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that the participating countries are the “R4” group, comprising Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Pakistan, and the European “E3” group, consisting of Britain, Germany, and France.

It added that the meetings will be chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, with participation from Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot.

The meetings are scheduled to discuss the potential for future cooperation and coordination between the countries of the two groups.

Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia established the “R4” group to support lasting stability and enhance dialogue on regional issues. The foreign ministers of the group have held six meetings so far, the first of which took place in Riyadh on March 18.

The European “E3” group was formed within the framework of ongoing trilateral diplomatic cooperation among the three countries since 2003 regarding Iran’s nuclear program, and has gradually evolved into a platform for implementing joint diplomatic initiatives on various regional and international issues.
