Cairo, Oct 22 (KUNA) – The Arab League called on Thursday for strengthening the culture of quality and accreditation in educational institutions at all levels to improve the efficiency of the education process and raise the quality of its outputs, with the aim of meeting labor market requirements. This was stated in an opening address by Dr. Faraj Al-Ajmi, Minister-Counselor and Director of the Department of Education, Teaching, and Scientific Research at the Arab League, at the launch of the “New Beginning to Ensure Education Quality and Accreditation” initiative in Egypt, under the patronage of the League’s Secretary-General.

Dr. Al-Ajmi said the initiative represents an important step toward entrenching the culture of quality and accreditation and developing educational institutions, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the education process and elevating the quality of its outputs. He added that the Arab League hosted last year the launch of the first phase of the “Badaya” initiative for higher education, and is currently hosting the launch of its second phase, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the development of the higher education system and enhancing the quality of its outputs.

He clarified that launching the initiative in pre-university education underscores the importance of adopting a comprehensive vision for developing the education system that begins in the early stages and extends to higher education, contributing to building a strong knowledge base and developing the skills of learners and teachers. He stressed the necessity of integrating efforts among educational institutions, quality assurance and accreditation bodies, and exchanging successful experiences and practices to ensure sustainable development and achieve the best results.

Dr. Al-Ajmi expressed the Arab League’s hope that the initiative will contribute to a qualitative leap in education quality at all levels and form a model for fruitful cooperation in developing educational institutions and raising the quality of their outputs. The initiative aims to disseminate a culture of quality in educational institutions and consolidate institutional and programmatic accreditation standards, thereby improving the efficiency of educational institutions, keeping pace with scientific and technological developments, and responding to the requirements of sustainable development and the labor market. It also seeks to support cooperation and exchange of expertise among educational institutions and quality assurance and accreditation bodies, disseminate good practices, and apply recognized quality standards across all educational levels.

The Arab League’s hosting of this event comes within the framework of supporting Arab cooperation in the field of education, exchanging experiences and successful practices among Arab countries, with the goal of enhancing education quality and building human capacities in the Arab region.

The event was attended by Dr. Amr Ezzat, Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Universities; Dr. Alaa Ashmawy, Chairman of the Egyptian National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education; Sheikh Ayman Abdel Ghani, Deputy Grand Imam of Al-Azhar; along with a number of university presidents, quality and accreditation directors, and representatives of institutions concerned with education development.
