Moscow, October 21 (KUNA) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that relations between his country and China are “developing successfully” and dynamically, emphasizing that they are not aimed at any third party and are not affected by current circumstances. Putin added that during his meeting with Chinese State Council Premier Li Qiang in the Russian city of St. Petersburg, the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting, scheduled to be held in China, would provide an opportunity for him to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He pointed to “significant progress” in bilateral cooperation in agricultural supplies, as part of the development of bilateral ties and the expansion of economic and trade cooperation between Moscow and Beijing. For his part, Li Qiang affirmed China’s readiness to work on expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia in a manner that serves the interests of the peoples of both countries, noting that Russia is advancing on its path of development under President Putin’s leadership. These remarks come as Moscow and Beijing intensify their political and economic engagements, coinciding with the 31st regular meeting of the heads of government of the two countries in St. Petersburg, attended by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Chinese State Council Premier Li Qiang to discuss bilateral cooperation issues. According to a statement by the Russian government, the priorities of cooperation between the two sides include strengthening trade and investment relations and developing joint projects in the energy, industry, agriculture, and transport infrastructure sectors, as well as other areas of mutual interest. Russia and China will celebrate in 2026 the 30th anniversary of the establishment of their strategic partnership and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation. Last August, the two countries held the 13th meeting of the Sub-Committee on Agricultural Cooperation in Beijing, discussing the development of agricultural trade, facilitating market access for agricultural products, and cooperation in the fields of agricultural science and technology, animal husbandry, and veterinary medicine.
