Brussels, October 21 (KUNA) -- The European Union announced on Wednesday that it is awaiting the results of talks held by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as part of diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine, confirming that it expects to receive a U.S. briefing on the outcomes of the meeting. This was stated by European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho in a press statement, noting that the main objective of the meeting held in Oslo on Tuesday, attended by a senior European official, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Witkoff, was “to explore whether conditions are ripe for transitioning to trilateral or even multilateral talks with Ukraine and Russia at the same table.” She added that “the key topics of discussion yesterday were territory, security, and post-war prosperity,” clarifying that the European Union expects a briefing after the U.S. delegation returns from Russia. Witkoff had previously announced that he brought “ideas” regarding a potential peace agreement for Ukraine during his ninth visit to Russia, in talks with Putin, as diplomatic efforts continue to explore ways to end the Russo-Ukrainian war.
