Beirut, October 20 (KUNA) -- The Lebanese Army on Tuesday rejected claims issued by the Israeli occupation regarding the operations of its military units in the area south of the Litani River, reaffirming its full commitment to its duties and the execution of assigned tasks despite ongoing attacks and repeated violations of the understandings (the Framework Agreement) between the two sides.
In a statement, the Lebanese Army command said that the Israeli occupation army had launched “baseless claims” through its official platforms, casting doubt on the Lebanese military institution’s ability to carry out its assigned tasks south of the Litani River. The command stressed that “the repetition of disinformation campaigns and the spread of lies fall within the context of attempts to undermine the credibility of the army locally and internationally,” particularly in conjunction with ongoing negotiations under US sponsorship.
It clarified that military units began in December 2025 addressing a military facility in the town of Kafr Kila, in the Bint Jbeil district of southern Lebanon, and continued their mission until mid-March 2026. The army added that it halted work at the Kafr Kila facility and evacuated the area upon the request of the Mechanism for Monitoring and Reporting the Cessation of Hostilities, due to Israeli occupation threats to bomb the site, despite informing the Mechanism that the task had not been completed and that a quantity of ammunition and military equipment remained on site, which was later targeted by Israeli airstrikes.
The Lebanese Army command noted that its repeated requests to resume work at the Kafr Kila facility were met with refusal by the Israeli occupation. It added, “Military units resumed their mission on August 15 last, in coordination with the Mechanism, and continued work until its final completion and the closure of the facility on October 16.”
Regarding a circulating video clip showing a truck targeted by Israeli occupation forces, the command stated that it dates back to July 3 last, in the Sdeeqeen area of the Sidon district, “i.e., one week after the signing of the Framework Agreement.”
The Lebanese Army command stressed that “all these facts and procedures are fully documented with the Mechanism, thereby refuting the occupation’s claims and proving the reality of the efforts undertaken by the military institution to preserve security and stability in the south.” (End) F.Z./R.J.
