Brussels, October 20 (KUNA) -- The European Expressions of regret today on Tuesday over the Libyan Parliament’s ratification of the Libyan-Turkish memorandum of understanding on the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction zones in the Mediterranean, reaffirming that its position on the agreement has not changed since it was set by the European Council in 2019. European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated in a joint declaration that “the agreement violates the sovereign rights of third countries, is inconsistent with the provisions of the Law of the Sea, and is null and void.” The two European officials reaffirmed the EU’s solidarity with Greece and Cyprus, reiterating the bloc’s well-known stance opposing any external interference in Libya. Earlier today, the Libyan House of Representatives voted unanimously to approve the memorandum of understanding signed between the Government of National Accord and the Turkish government on determining maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean.
