Berlin, October 20 (KUNA) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called on Wednesday for increased investments in the country and for additional measures to encourage international companies and business leaders to invest in Germany. Speaking at the “Invest in Germany” conference organized by the German government, Merz said his administration aims, through its first investment summit, to attract more private-sector investors to Germany, highlighting the strength of the state budget, the independence of the judiciary, the robustness of the industrial base, and the quality of the education system and research institutions. He emphasized that Germany offers investors a unique combination of industrial excellence, technological innovation, and access to one of the world’s largest domestic markets.

Merz reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to continuing its reform agenda, describing its reform program as one of the most ambitious in recent decades. The program aims to reform social security systems to control social spending, introduce greater flexibility into the labor market, and reduce bureaucracy. He noted that the German government plans to spend tens of billions of euros in the coming years to modernize infrastructure and help companies transition to more climate-friendly production processes.

He explained that spending on machinery and equipment, research and development, modern production facilities, and software would boost productivity and thereby strengthen economic growth. Merz stressed that by organizing the first conference of its kind, the German government seeks to send a strong welcome message to foreign investors and turn this initiative into tangible investments. Germany also aims to convince investors that it is a leading economic destination, backed by the strength of its public finances, the rule of law, its position as the European leader in the number of patents, the quality of its universities, the high qualifications of its workforce, and tariff-free access to the EU’s internal market.

The “Invest in Germany” conference launched today with the participation of around 200 top executives from German and international companies, aiming to improve the investment climate in Germany, with a focus on artificial intelligence, energy, technology, and infrastructure. (End)
