Beijing, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- Chinese Premier Li Qiang affirmed on Monday the necessity for the parties concerned in the Middle East to adhere to the peace option, swiftly resume dialogue and negotiations, and resolve differences through political and diplomatic means to restore calm to the region. Xinhua News Agency reported that this statement was made during a meeting between Li and Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, while both were attending the 25th meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The agency quoted Li as saying that the situation in the Middle East has experienced turbulence and instability since the beginning of this year, emphasizing that the sovereignty and security of all countries in the region must be respected. He added that China has been doing its utmost to promote peace talks, pledging to continue pushing for stability and development in the region in line with initiatives proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping on enhancing common security in the Middle East.

Li stressed Beijing’s readiness to make new progress in cooperation and exchanges across various fields with Tehran, marking the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

For his part, Mokhber praised China as a responsible country that consistently supports multilateralism and is committed to protecting the common interests of Global South countries. He welcomed China’s efforts aimed at ending the conflict and expressed his country’s readiness to resolve differences through dialogue and consultation, reiterating hope for a swift return to the memorandum of understanding reached in Islamabad, which would pave the way for peace in the region.
