Beirut, October 19 (KUNA) -- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun affirmed on Monday that Lebanon’s hosting of the Arab Men’s Basketball Clubs Championship underscores the country’s sporting stature and its capacity to welcome Arab brothers, emphasizing that sport plays a fundamental role in young people’s lives and serves as a bridge connecting peoples. This was stated in a statement issued by the Lebanese Presidency following President Aoun’s reception at Baabda Palace of Ismail Al-Qarqawi, President of the Arab Basketball Federation, accompanied by his deputies Abdulrahman Al-Musa’ed and Nadim Hakim, and Federation Secretary General Brigadier General Abdullah Shalabi, along with media figure Ibrahim Wahba, on the occasion of the conclusion of the 38th edition of the Arab Men’s Basketball Clubs Championship, hosted by Lebanon.

President Aoun expressed his hope that the tournament would contribute to strengthening and developing Arab basketball presence, consolidating relations among Arab clubs and federations, and playing a role in bringing Arabs together and enhancing communication among them. He stressed that sport carries a humanitarian and ethical message that fosters discipline, cooperation, and perseverance, while cementing values of respect and sportsmanship. He commended the Lebanese Basketball Federation’s efforts to develop the sport and strengthen ties with Arab countries through continuous participation in tournaments and competitions.

President Aoun noted that the President of the Arab Basketball Federation had thanked him for sponsoring the championship, which achieved “significant success,” and conveyed an invitation for him to attend the final match scheduled for Tuesday. Al-Qarqawi briefed President Aoun on the key activities of the Arab Basketball Federation, particularly those related to youth categories, expressing his appreciation for President Aoun’s supportive stance toward sport and his interest in various activities.

The 38th edition of the Arab Men’s Basketball Clubs Championship ranks among the most prominent regional tournaments, bringing together elite Arab clubs.
