Cairo, October 19 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, affirmed today, Monday, that the Palestinian issue remains the core of the conflict in the region, stressing the necessity for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in addressing the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and ensuring the unrestricted flow of aid.

The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Nader Zeki, stated in a press release that these remarks were made during a meeting held by Minister Abdelatty with the Acting Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Ambassador Fadi Hajjali.

The spokesperson clarified that the meeting addressed recent developments in regional affairs and efforts aimed at containing tensions and de-escalating the situation, particularly given that the challenges facing the region cast a shadow on the peoples of both shores of the Mediterranean.

The meeting also featured a discussion on ways to revitalize cooperation among Union member states, viewing the Union as a framework for collaboration between the two Mediterranean shores. Abdelatty highlighted the importance of encouraging member states to undertake more joint projects.

In this context, Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s readiness for further engagement, noting the potential to enhance cooperation among Union member states in the fields of energy, water studies, and technological solutions.

He also welcomed the upcoming Union for the Mediterranean Economic Forum in Cairo on Tuesday, noting that the forum will focus on discussing ways to strengthen the role of the private sector as a key driver of sustainable economic development and growth in the region.

He stressed that the holding of the forum comes at a critical moment for the region, amid unprecedented economic, security, and environmental challenges, which necessitates intensified joint efforts by Union member states as a fundamental pillar to confront these challenges and mitigate their negative repercussions on the member countries.
