Beirut, October 18 (KUNA) -- Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri stressed on Sunday the necessity of unifying national and international efforts to halt the Israeli occupation’s aggression and compel it to implement international legitimacy resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 1701. The Speaker’s media office stated that Berri, during his meeting with French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barro and the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Armed Forces, Alice Révoil, who led an accompanying delegation, highlighted the sacrifices of the French contingent participating in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and all soldiers from countries contributing to the international forces over more than 48 years, “in fulfillment and commitment to international legitimacy resolutions.” Berri affirmed that the role of these forces “extends beyond security and military functions in establishing the foundations of international peace and security, encompassing humanitarian, cultural, economic, and social roles that strengthen friendship and intercultural convergence among nations, regardless of their affiliations.” He noted that the official Lebanese state and all Lebanese people are “united and firmly committed to the continued presence of international forces, while looking forward to a French, European, international, and regional role to avoid the vacuum that could result from the expiration of the UN force’s mandate in southern Lebanon before the full implementation of Resolution 1701 is completed.” Berri pointed out that Lebanon “has committed and remains committed to Resolution 1701, while the Israeli occupation continues to violate and breach all its provisions, persisting in its war against Lebanon and occupying vast areas of its south.” (End) A.Y.B. / N.S.A.
