Cairo, October 18 (KUNA) -- Egypt and Pakistan reaffirmed on Sunday the necessity of returning to dialogue and resuming the diplomatic and negotiation track between the United States and Iran, as a means to reach understandings that contribute to ending the current crisis and mitigating its repercussions on countries in the region. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that this position emerged during a phone call received by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Badr Abdelatty from his Pakistani counterpart, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, as part of the continuous coordination and consultation between the two countries and in support of efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore calm in the region. The statement clarified that the call addressed recent developments in the regional situation amid the military escalation witnessed in the area and the efforts undertaken to contain the tensions and restore calm. It added that Abdelatty emphasized, in this context, the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts to support political solutions and intensifying coordination and consultation within the framework of the regional quadrilateral mechanism, thereby contributing to de-escalating tensions and enhancing regional security and stability. He stressed the rejection of any infringement on the security of Gulf states, considering it an integral part of Egypt’s security, as well as the rejection of using maritime straits and passages as tools for pressure or escalation. The two ministers reviewed, according to the statement, the efforts and proposals put forward to contain tensions, emphasizing the importance of continuing consultation and close coordination between the two countries in the coming phase to support the success of de-escalation initiatives and to create favorable conditions for de-escalating tensions and restoring regional stability.
