Kuwait City, October 17 (KUNA) — Kuwait’s Al-Arabi Club suffered a 1-0 defeat to Syria’s Al-Fayhaa SC today, Saturday, in the first match of Group 2 of the AFC Challenge League. The loss came at the start of Al-Arabi’s Asian campaign this season in Group 2, which is hosted by Tajikistan’s Istiklol Dushanbe.
Francesco Politano scored Al-Fayhaa’s only goal in the 33rd minute. Al-Arabi then attempted to mount a comeback by launching attacks on the Syrian side’s goal, but their efforts proved unsuccessful, resulting in their first loss in the group stage.
Al-Fayhaa currently tops the group standings with three points, while Al-Arabi sits at the bottom with none, awaiting the result of the match between Istiklol Dushanbe and Lebanon’s Al-Najma, which will be played later today.
Al-Arabi will face Istiklol Dushanbe in the second round on Tuesday next week, and will conclude their group stage fixtures on Friday next week against Al-Najma. (End) S.A.D./R.J.
