Cairo, Oct 17 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi affirmed today, Saturday, that his country will never forget the stance of the brotherly Gulf states in support of Egypt in 2013, stressing that Egypt stands firmly with full backing to protect the territories of Gulf countries and defend them.
During a speech at a ceremony marking the graduation of new cohorts of students from the military academy and military colleges, President el-Sisi expressed gratitude and appreciation to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates for the support they provided during that period, and directed the commander of the military parade to render a military salute to them.
Addressing the world, el-Sisi said, “We are not seeking a role to play, but it is unreasonable to allow Saudi Arabia, its security, or its stability to be undermined.” He added, “In accordance with the directives of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, we will implement any measures to protect and defend Saudi Arabia,” calling on the Egyptian parliament to convene an emergency session to authorize defensive action “if we are asked to do so.”
In a separate context, President el-Sisi affirmed that “the Egyptian Constitution will not be amended,” and stressed that the end of his presidential term in 2030 “is fully settled and will not be subject to discussion.” He noted, “Four years ago, we were talking about preparing the military academy to train and qualify cadres for the Egyptian state. Today, the academy will assume another role: preparing another generation of leaders who will bear responsibility for leading the country.”
He continued, “Until the end of 2030, there are about 43 months remaining, and we are discussing 30 months of preparation for doctoral campaigns, whether from Egyptian universities or reputable foreign institutions. We are developing a comprehensive mechanism for this, with the speaker of parliament taking responsibility for its preparation, alongside a group of trusted thinkers and politicians, to draft a law regulating the election of individuals who meet the criteria I have outlined.”
In this regard, he emphasized that “no partisan, traitor, or criminal will assume responsibility in accordance with the constitutional provisions,” adding, “We must choose impartially and fairly. Criteria must be established that show no favoritism or bias, with the sole objective of selecting based on competence, merit, and capability.”
He pointed out that “the leadership cadre qualification program to be conducted at the military academy over 30 months will be funded by the armed forces, as part of their role in safeguarding the Egyptian state.” (End) A.S.M. / N.S.A.
