Cairo, October 17 (KUNA) -- The Arab League condemned on Saturday the attacks launched by the Houthi militias on the Yemeni government headquarters in Aden, Aden International Airport, and residential neighborhoods in Marib, which resulted in casualties and injuries and endangered the lives of civilians. In a statement, the League affirmed that these attacks constitute a highly dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of the rules of international law and international humanitarian law, stressing that the continued targeting of state institutions and civilian facilities reflects a determination to persist in escalation, thereby threatening Yemen’s security and stability and undermining efforts aimed at de-escalation and reaching a political settlement to the Yemeni crisis.
The League reaffirmed its steadfast position supporting Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as its support for the legitimate government and state institutions, and called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take firm stances and measures to halt these attacks and hold those responsible accountable, thereby ensuring the protection of civilians and safeguarding state institutions.
It expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and its best wishes for the swift recovery of the injured, reaffirming its full solidarity with the Yemeni government and people. It also welcomed the presidential statement issued by the UN Security Council last Thursday, which included condemnation of the escalating Houthi attacks and a call for an immediate halt to the escalation and to attacks targeting civilians and civilian facilities.
The League stressed the importance of intensifying Arab and international efforts to achieve a comprehensive political settlement to the Yemeni crisis in accordance with agreed reference points and relevant Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216, thereby ensuring the restoration of security and stability and ending the suffering of the Yemeni people.
Earlier, Yemeni Health Minister Dr. Qasim Bishah announced on Thursday that five workers at the Presidential Complex in the Maashiq area in the interim capital of Aden were killed and 16 others were injured in a missile attack launched by Houthi militias on the official government headquarters. Meanwhile, the state-run Yemeni News Agency reported on Friday that two ballistic missiles fired by Houthi militias landed at Aden International Airport for the second time within a week, without causing any human casualties.
