Aden, October 16 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed on Friday the presidential statement issued by the United Nations Security Council regarding the military escalation by the (Houthi) militia, its attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and its threats to international navigation. In a statement, the ministry said the presidential statement condemned the ongoing Houthi attacks targeting civilians, civilian objects, airports, and energy infrastructure, as well as threats to international navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab. The statement underscored the importance of the unified position of Security Council members and the need for full implementation of Resolution 2216, issued in 2015, and related resolutions, as well as strengthening international cooperation to prevent the Houthi militia from acquiring weapons and other forms of support, thereby contributing to halting its aggression and threats to the security, stability, and peace of Yemen and the region. It appreciated the solidarity of Security Council members with Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the face of Houthi attacks on civilians and civilian facilities. It also emphasized the right of states, in accordance with international law, to take the necessary measures to defend their sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, and to protect their citizens and residents on their territory.
