Riyadh, October 16 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Al-Budaiwi expressed his appreciation today, Friday, for the position articulated by members of the UN Security Council in its presidential statement regarding the attacks carried out by the Houthi terrorist militia against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, Al-Budaiwi said that the Council’s condemnation of these attacks constitutes a clear international message rejecting the continued targeting of the Kingdom, its national assets, and the threat to maritime navigation security and international trade routes. He added that the significance of the statement lies in affirming the international community’s responsibility to halt these violations and prevent the Houthi militia from continuing to receive the weapons and support that fuel its attacks. He noted that full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015) represents an international obligation that must be fulfilled in accordance with its provisions, thereby contributing to ending these practices that threaten the security and stability of the region.
Al-Budaiwi emphasized that the GCC views the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a fundamental pillar of the shared Gulf security framework, underscoring the unity and resolute stance of GCC member states in standing alongside the Kingdom and supporting all measures it takes to defend its sovereignty, safeguard its security, and protect its citizens and residents on its territory.
