Baghdad, October 16 (KUNA) -- The spokesperson for the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ambassador Hassanin Kamel, announced on Friday that all necessary preparations and arrangements for hosting the ministerial session, scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) and the day after in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, have been completed. The session will be held under the theme “Dialogue and Solidarity: Two Pillars for Enhancing Peace and Sustainable Development.”
In a statement, Kamel said that the preparations were carried out through joint coordination between the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Secretariat of the Iraqi Council of Ministers, and the Ministry of the Interior, in cooperation with the OIC General Secretariat, to ensure all organizational, logistical, and security requirements are met and to guarantee suitable conditions for the meetings and the success of their work.
He noted that participating delegations began arriving in Baghdad since Thursday in preparation for the session, which represents an important stage for consultation and coordination of positions among member states regarding the issues and challenges facing the Islamic world, as well as exploring ways to enhance cooperation, solidarity, and joint Islamic action.
Kamel emphasized that Baghdad’s hosting of this session holds special significance in light of current regional and international challenges, which underscore the need to strengthen dialogue, understanding, and the unification of efforts, in line with the session’s theme and the organization’s objectives of supporting peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the session spokesperson announced that the meeting would discuss the establishment of effective mechanisms to halt Israeli occupation practices, including settlement activities, displacement, annexation, and the Judaization of Jerusalem. He confirmed that the situations in Palestine and Yemen would be on the political agenda of the meetings.
On the other hand, he pointed out that food and water security, intra-regional trade, and the encouragement of investment among member states would be among the key economic files to be discussed, along with mechanisms to combat Islamophobia and terrorism, and the protection of the rights of Muslim minorities in other countries.
It is worth noting that the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that 53 out of the 57 member states of the organization have confirmed their attendance at the conference as of today, in addition to representatives from the United Nations and 40 non-governmental organizations. Delegations have begun arriving in Baghdad since yesterday, with arrivals continuing steadily. (End)
