Aden, Oct 15 (KUNA) -- Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi affirmed that the Houthi attack on the Maashiq Presidential Palace in the interim capital, Aden, represents an extension of the targeting of state institutions and civilian entities in Yemen and Saudi Arabia, and threatens the security of the region and its waterways.

The state-run Yemeni News Agency (Saba) reported that al-Alimi held telephone calls on Thursday with members of the Presidential Leadership Council, Abdulrahman al-Mahrami and Mahmoud al-Subaihi, and Prime Minister Shuaib al-Zindani, to inquire about their safety and that of government members following the missile and drone attack launched by Houthi militias on the Maashiq Palace.

Al-Alimi received an initial report on the impact of the attack and the measures taken to address its repercussions, directing that investigations be completed and necessary protective measures for state institutions and their staff be strengthened. He ordered military and security authorities to take necessary steps to counter threats and respond to their sources in accordance with the law, ensuring the protection of civilians and civilian objects. He stressed that the state will continue to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities and protect its sovereign institutions and citizens.

In a related development, al-Alimi followed up on the latest developments of the “Yemen Dawn” operation and the progress of military operations across various fronts, during briefings presented by Defense Minister Tahir al-Aqili, Chief of Staff Brigadier General Saghir bin Aziz, Commander of the Fourth Military Zone Major General Hamdi Shukri, and governors of Taiz and Lahj, Nabil Shamsan and Murad al-Halimi.

The briefings indicated that aerial and ground strikes carried out by the armed forces, supported by the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy since the launch of the operation, exceeded 17,000 targets according to operational estimates, covering military sites, concentrations, and capabilities of Houthi militias across multiple fronts.

He praised the resilience of the armed forces, military formations, and popular resistance, commending the positions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the role of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in supporting the Yemeni state and its armed forces.

He reiterated that the “Yemen Dawn” operation is ongoing to achieve its objectives of restoring state institutions and extending their authority over all Yemeni territories, reaching the capital Sanaa, emphasizing the necessity of ending the coup and preventing the monopolization of weapons and force outside the framework of the state.
