Beirut, October 15 (KUNA) -- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Thursday urged U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to pressure the Israeli occupation to halt its ongoing attacks on southern villages and towns and to adhere to the parameters of the “framework agreement” reached under U.S. sponsorship last June. This came during a phone call received by President Aoun from Secretary Rubio, in which the general situation in Lebanon and the region was discussed in light of recent developments. The Lebanese presidency said in a statement that the two sides addressed the ground situation in the south amid continued attacks by Israeli occupation forces, emphasizing the importance of the international role in deterring violations. President Aoun assured the U.S. secretary that the Lebanese army and security forces are fully carrying out their duties in implementing decisions aimed at preventing armed manifestations, confiscating weapons and ammunition, and combating smuggling, noting that the recent measures fall within this context. He stressed that judicial authorities are following up on all referred cases “without any leniency toward perpetrators, to ensure the strict and impartial application of the law.” (End) F.Z. / M.M.J.
