Manama, October 15 (KUNA) -- Bahrain’s Attorney General, Ali Al-Buainain, today on Thursday praised the constructive cooperation among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states across all fields, particularly the coordination among GCC public prosecution departments, with a view to establishing a unified operational framework that aligns with the aspirations of Gulf leaders. Al-Buainain’s remarks came during his opening address at the 18th meeting of the GCC Attorneys General, which is scheduled to last one day. He emphasized the importance of completing the international judicial cooperation framework to combat crimes, pursue perpetrators, seize their instruments and proceeds, and address the resulting repercussions. He called for strengthening this framework by implementing the decision adopted by the Attorneys General at their 17th meeting, which tasked the study of the feasibility of establishing a GCC mechanism to form joint investigation teams, in accordance with the national laws of member states, to support efforts against organized crime. He also addressed the modernization and development of the tools used by GCC public prosecution departments, stressing the importance of employing artificial intelligence technology in prosecution work. In this regard, he highlighted proposals put forward by the Public Prosecution in the Kingdom of Bahrain, including the submission of an Artificial Intelligence Ethics Document. He underscored the necessity of providing specialized, high-level training and capacity-building for members of GCC public prosecution departments and their supporting bodies, leveraging judicial, legal, and academic institutions both within and outside the GCC. The meeting discussed several topics related to joint cooperation, particularly the establishment of a GCC mechanism for forming joint investigation teams, unified cooperation models, and updates to the unified guideline regulation for inspecting the work of public prosecution staff, as well as unified judicial directives. Additionally, the meeting approved the Bahrain Public Prosecution’s project on rules governing the use of artificial intelligence in prosecution work. (End) K.N.A. / S.A.M.
