Beijing, October 15 (KUNA) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that the ongoing fighting in the Middle East is having negative repercussions on regional peace and stability, emphasizing the need to avoid escalating conflicts and to adhere to dialogue and political settlement. Xinhua News Agency reported that Wang Yi made these remarks during a meeting with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani on the sidelines of the Seventh Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) summit held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, urging the removal of obstacles to a political settlement.

For his part, Al Zayani praised China’s efforts to halt the fighting and warned of the repercussions of tensions on energy supplies and freedom of navigation. He reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to addressing issues through multilateral United Nations mechanisms and cooperating with Beijing to confront current challenges.

On the Palestinian issue, Wang Yi, during his meeting with Palestinian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Aqarbi on the sidelines of the summit, reiterated China’s support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, stressing the necessity of reaching a just solution to the issue and backing the two-state solution to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.

In turn, al-Aqarbi commended China’s supportive stance toward the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the need to avoid double standards. She expressed her country’s appreciation for the Chinese humanitarian aid provided to the Gaza Strip and its hope to strengthen bilateral relations and leverage China’s role in supporting the two-state solution.
