Washington, Oct 14 (KUNA) -- U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Wednesday that it destroyed an Iranian sailing vessel that was conducting surveillance operations to target U.S. Navy ships in the Gulf of Oman. CENTCOM said in a statement on the X platform that “U.S. forces destroyed on October 6 an Iranian-linked sailing vessel that was conducting surveillance and targeting operations against U.S. Navy ships in the Gulf of Oman.” The statement added that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has continued, over the past seven months, to indiscriminately target thousands of civilian mariners transiting territorial waters, as well as U.S. Navy warships. It noted that U.S. forces assisted in safely evacuating ship crew members before destroying their vessels, and that efforts are currently underway to repatriate them to their home countries. Meanwhile, CENTCOM reaffirmed in a separate post that the U.S. embargo on Iran remains fully effective. CENTCOM stressed that commercial navigation continues through the Strait of Hormuz despite Iran’s unjustified attacks on commercial vessels, thanks to the coordinated protection provided by U.S. forces and regional partners.
