Kuwait City, October 14 (KUNA) — Sheikhah Al-Ibrahim, Director of the Public Relations and Media Department and official spokesperson for the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs, reaffirmed on Wednesday the authority’s commitment to encouraging environmental initiatives that foster partnerships with educational institutions and contribute to raising environmental awareness among students.

Speaking on behalf of Acting Director General Nof Al-Bahbahani at the launch ceremony of the “Private Universities Challenge for E-Waste Recycling” initiative, Al-Ibrahim stated that the initiative, organized by the Eco Incubator for Environmental Projects and targeting students of private universities, underscores the importance of engaging youth in environmental issues and enhancing their role in adopting and disseminating sustainable practices within university and community settings.

She added that involving young people in such initiatives represents a genuine investment in building environmental awareness among a generation capable of driving change and transforming sustainability concepts from theoretical principles into daily practices and innovative, implementable projects.

Al-Ibrahim noted that the authority places significant emphasis on waste management across all categories, including electronic waste, which requires handling based on sound scientific and regulatory foundations to mitigate its impacts on the environment and public health, while also promoting the recovery and recycling of reusable and recyclable materials.

This aligns with the National Strategy for Integrated Waste Management, which aims to develop a more efficient and sustainable waste management system in the country by reducing waste generation, enhancing reuse and recycling, improving resource efficiency, and minimizing the volume of waste sent to landfills.

She emphasized that achieving sustainability and integrated waste management goals requires coordinated efforts among government entities, educational institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations, alongside active youth participation as key partners in driving change and contributing to a more sustainable future.
