Erbil, October 14 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday the death of two soldiers in a bomb explosion south of Kirkuk, northern Iraq. The ministry said in a statement that Brigadier General Yasser Hussein, commander of the communications battalion of the 11th Infantry Division, and Lieutenant Mutasim Abbas were killed in an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device left behind by militants of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) while they were carrying out an inspection of a site in the Zaghiton Valley in Kirkuk province. According to a previous statement from the security media cell of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, the Iraqi Air Force carried out three targeted air strikes yesterday against ISIS militant hideouts in the Zaghiton Valley under the Kirkuk Operations Command. It is worth noting that areas within Kirkuk province have witnessed recent movements by ISIS militants, as well as clashes with security forces, resulting in casualties on both sides and the deaths of civilians.
