Moscow, Oct 14 (KUNA) – Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced on Wednesday that 493 drones were directed toward the Russian capital, noting that air defense systems intercepted most of them at long distances, while 180 drones were destroyed as they approached the city. Russian media quoted Sobyanin as saying the drone attack began between 8:30 p.m. yesterday and 8:00 a.m. today local time, clarifying that the response operations were carried out in stages, while emergency teams began dealing with debris impact sites. This attack comes amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war since February 2022 and the escalating use of drones in cross-border attacks. On October 6, Russian authorities announced that the Moscow region had been hit by a large-scale attack involving more than 650 drones, according to TASS news agency, at which time local authorities reported two deaths, additional injuries, and damage to several homes and vehicles.
