Algiers, October 13 (KUNA) -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune carried out a minor cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday, appointing his advisor on local communities, Ibrahim Mourad, as Minister of the Interior and Local Communities, while assigning former minister Said Saoudi to manage the affairs of the Ministry of Transport. The Algerian presidency said in a statement that this reshuffle splits the former Ministry of the Interior, Local Communities and Transport into two separate ministries. Ibrahim Mourad, a newcomer to the current government, previously served as Minister of the Interior and Local Communities for three years, from September 2022, when he was appointed by the president to succeed Kamal Belghoud, until September 2025, when he was succeeded by Said Saoudi. In addition, according to the presidential statement, President Tebboune appointed General Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lounès Mekriman as Director of the Presidential Office, succeeding the late Boualem Boualem, who passed away last weekend after a serious illness and was buried in his hometown of Oran in western Algeria.
