Tunis, Oct 13 (KUNA) -- Arab League Interior Ministers Council Secretary-General Mohamed Kouman called on Arab states on Tuesday to enhance disaster preparedness, adapt to climate change, develop household safety measures, and establish early warning systems to protect lives and mitigate environmental risks. In a statement marking the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Arab Environment Day, the Council’s General Secretariat said this year’s theme, “Resilience Starts at Home,” underscores the importance of strengthening housing safety, sustainable urban planning, and the use of construction technologies resilient to climate hazards. Kouman stressed the need for cooperation between governments and the private sector in formulating resilient housing policies and financing sustainable construction projects, prioritizing communities most vulnerable to disasters and ensuring universal access to early warning systems. He highlighted the Council’s efforts to promote a culture of prevention and safety through the development of guidelines, organization of seminars and training workshops, and the adoption of the Model Arab Law for the Protection and Development of the Environment in 2002.
