Aden, Oct 12 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni Ministry of Interior announced on Monday that it had dismantled cells affiliated with Houthi militias in September last year that were plotting to carry out operations targeting security and military leaders, facilities, and supply lines in Yemen’s temporary capital, Aden, and in the provinces of Lahij and Abyan.
During a joint press conference held in Aden, attended by Interior Minister Brigadier General Ibrahim Haidan, Aden Governor Abdulrahman Sheikh, Lahij Governor Murad Al-Halimi, and Deputy Minister of Information Saleh Al-Aqil, the ministry revealed that the most recently apprehended cell was a network of 18 members whose plans were thwarted before they could execute operations aimed at destabilizing security and stability in the three governorates.
Minister Haidan stated that investigations revealed the cell members received training on carrying out sabotage operations, planting explosive devices and booby traps, and conducting infiltration missions in areas under Houthi control, under the supervision of “Iranian experts and elements from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and Lebanese Hezbollah.”
He noted that the dismantled network was planning to carry out operations in Aden, Lahij, and Abyan under the supervision of Houthi leaders, according to the investigation results announced by the ministry.
He emphasized that securing the internal front constitutes an essential part of the “Yemen Dawn” operation, stressing that security agencies continue their efforts to counter plots targeting the security of liberated governorates and to support military operations aimed at restoring state institutions.
Haidan accused the Houthi militia of exploiting the communications and internet sector under its control in Sanaa for surveillance, monitoring, intelligence gathering, and recruiting operatives to execute its security and military plans. (End) S.N.S
