Western Statement Warns of Iranian Guard's Readiness to Launch Attacks Abroad
Kuwait City, 12 October (KUNA) -- A statement issued today by 29 Western countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, warned that the incident at the UK’s Fairford base demonstrates the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s readiness to launch attacks beyond Iran’s borders through proxies and clandestine networks. The statement was issued by the governments of the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
The statement condemned in the strongest terms “Iran’s use of violent attacks, including planning lethal operations, deliberate arson, sabotage, cyberattacks, and other hybrid activities directed against us and our partners.” It acknowledged the conclusions reached by the British government regarding Iran’s involvement in the incident at Fairford, a base of the Royal Air Force, and affirmed that “this incident proves the continued readiness of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to carry out hostile activities outside Iran’s borders through clandestine networks and proxies.”
It stressed that “any attempt by Iran to threaten, silence, intimidate, harass, harm, or coerce individuals within our territories, whether through proxies or by any other means, is unacceptable.” The statement confirmed that the governments of the 29 countries would take measures to identify, investigate, disrupt, and criminally prosecute those responsible for any acts linked to hostile activities on behalf of Iran.
In London, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office published the statement, which condemned Iranian threats and sabotage activities and their involvement in the incident that occurred on 27 September, while also warning that this incident followed shortly after a recent wave of attacks across Europe targeting Iranian journalists and US interests.
It added, “Anyone engaging in hostile activities on behalf of Iran or any other state should know that we will take action to identify, investigate, disrupt, and criminally prosecute those responsible.” It further stated, “Iran should have no doubt that we are united and committed to safeguarding our sovereignty, strengthening our resilience, enhancing our international coordination, supporting our national cohesion, protecting our communities, and ensuring accountability for those responsible for these acts.” (End) A.M.M. / A.S.H. / H.S.S.
