UK Imposes Sanctions on Two Iranians for Involvement in 'Hostile Activities'
London, October 12 (KUNA) -- Britain announced on Monday the imposition of restrictive measures on two Iranians suspected of facilitating or carrying out “hostile activities on behalf of the Iranian regime,” including planning or executing attacks abroad. In a statement, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband said his country had decided to list the two individuals on its sanctions roster for their role in facilitating or participating in hostile activities on behalf of the Iranian regime, with the aim of threatening, planning, or carrying out attacks overseas. He added that Iran’s persistent attempts to undermine the security of the United Kingdom and its international partners through criminal networks, affiliated groups, and state-sponsored harmful activities were “unacceptable.” Miliband affirmed that Britain would not tolerate any threats on its territory, noting that he had instructed the Foreign Office to summon the Iranian ambassador to the UK to convey this position. He stressed that the British government would continue to counter what he described as unacceptable Iranian activities and protect national security, pointing out that Britain had previously placed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on its sanctions list under new powers related to state threats and had imposed broad sanctions on those responsible for such activities. According to a statement issued by the British Foreign Office, the measures include the immediate freezing of assets, a travel ban, and a prohibition on the two individuals holding executive positions in companies.
