He expressed his country’s aspiration to elevate political, economic, and security cooperation to reflect the depth of historical ties and shared interests.

His remarks were delivered during a speech at the embassy’s celebration of Spain’s National Day, attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hamad Al-Mushaan, a number of heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of international organizations, and business leaders from both sides.

Ambassador Hernandez stated that Kuwait-Spain relations are entering a dynamic and promising phase, particularly in light of the results of the bilateral political consultations held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, on October 7. He clarified that both sides agreed during the consultations to move toward establishing a strategic political dialogue, which would mark a qualitative leap in institutional relations between the two countries. This dialogue would include high-level meetings and the formation of specialized working groups to examine areas of mutual interest.

He added that the coming phase would focus on enhancing cooperation in several strategic sectors, foremost among them defense, health, cybersecurity, and food security, alongside exploring the possibility of organizing important official visits between officials of both countries in the near future.

Ambassador Hernandez noted that Spain views Kuwait as a key strategic partner, a fact reflected in the economic and trade indicators between the two nations. He pointed out that Spanish exports to the Kuwaiti market have seen continuous growth in recent years, while Spanish imports from Kuwait rose by more than 200 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year.

He highlighted the presence of Spanish companies in several vital sectors in Kuwait, including renewable energy, oil, civil aviation, and transport infrastructure, emphasizing that the contributions of these companies reflect Spain’s commitment to supporting Kuwait’s development and progress.

He revealed that preparations are underway to hold the next meeting of the Kuwait-Spain Joint Economic Commission in Madrid in 2027, with the aim of expanding the horizons of trade and investment cooperation and strengthening economic partnerships between the two countries.

Ambassador Hernandez affirmed that relations between Kuwait and Spain are not limited to economic and commercial aspects but extend to growing cultural and human ties. He noted the increasing interest of Kuwaiti citizens in visiting Spain and investing in its real estate sector, as well as the growing interest of Kuwaiti students in studying at Spanish universities.

He added that new facilitations regarding Schengen visa procedures have contributed to making the process smoother and faster, thereby enhancing travel and communication between the peoples of the two countries.
