Brussels, Oct 12 (KUNA) – The European Union stressed on Monday the need for digital platforms to adhere to their terms of use and refrain from broadcasting executions live, following a U.S. plan to stream the firing squad execution of the man who killed 13 people at a U.S. military base in 2009. EU spokesperson Thomas Renner told journalists that digital platforms are bound by European rules “to strictly enforce their terms of use.” Renner warned that failure by platforms to enforce their terms of use would trigger the EU’s powers under the Digital Services Act, emphasizing that the bloc would certainly ensure that companies and online platforms comply with these obligations within Europe. The EU spokesperson’s comments come after U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth proposed a plan to broadcast the execution of former U.S. Army Major Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 people when he attacked a military base in 2009.
