US media: Aftermath of Hurricane Isaac extends across northern United States

New York, October 12 (KUNA) -- U.S. media reported that the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac continues, with its effects extending to the northern United States, causing heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides that necessitated rescue and evacuation operations for residents. The Associated Press reported last night that heavy rains raised river levels and flooded roads in western North Carolina, prompting emergency teams to rescue people trapped by floodwaters. It added that emergency response teams dealt with five landslides in McDowell County, while some areas saw voluntary evacuations due to flooding of rivers and streams, coinciding with ongoing power outages affecting approximately 226,000 customers in Florida and Alabama as of yesterday evening, amid efforts to restore electricity to affected areas. In the same context, the U.S. National Weather Service warned of the possibility of continued river rises and flooding despite the decrease in rainfall intensity in the affected areas. Hurricane Isaac struck Florida last Friday with Category 2 strength before weakening and transitioning into a post-tropical cyclone as it moved northward, leaving at least four dead and causing widespread material damage.
