Brussels, October 11 (KUNA) -- The European Union expressed its solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Sunday in response to the attack carried out by the Houthi militia on King Khalid International Airport in the capital, Riyadh, describing it as a “horrific terrorist act.” High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, in a statement posted on the social media platform X, stressed that “random attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure cannot be justified.” She confirmed that the EU remains in contact with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan to assess the latest developments, extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wishing the injured a speedy recovery. On another note, the European official stated that enhanced coordination between the EU’s maritime operation aimed at safeguarding navigation security and freedom of movement in the Red Sea (Aspides) and the Saudi-led multinational maritime defense coalition is “vital.” She added that EU foreign ministers will discuss the escalating tensions in the Middle East region on Monday.
