US media: 4 dead due to Hurricane Isaias in the southeastern United States
New York, Oct 11 (KUNA) -- U.S. media reported that at least four people were killed when Hurricane Isaac struck the southeastern United States, causing significant property damage and power outages for hundreds of thousands before weakening into a post-tropical cyclone. Citing local authorities on Saturday evening, media outlets said two victims died in Florida and others in Alabama, with two of the fatalities resulting from trees falling on homes. Approximately 670,000 customers in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi lost electricity, while emergency crews continued clearing debris, restoring essential services, and assessing damage. Hurricane Isaac made landfall near Destin, Florida, on Friday evening with winds reaching 165 kilometers per hour, accompanied by heavy rainfall that brought down trees and damaged buildings and roads. The U.S. National Hurricane Center announced on Saturday evening that Isaac had transitioned into a post-tropical cyclone, warning of risks from flash flooding and strong winds. (End) E.S.T. / M.A.K.
