New York, October 11 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his strong condemnation of the bloody attack that targeted King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, which killed 12 people and injured more than 300 others. In a statement on Saturday evening, Guterres affirmed that attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure constitute a violation of international law, emphasizing the urgent need to halt them immediately.
For his part, UN Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg strongly condemned the ongoing attacks carried out by the Houthi group against civilian infrastructure in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including the latest attack on King Khalid International Airport. In a similar statement, Grundberg noted that the attack came after strikes on Riyadh and Abha airports earlier in the current week, which also resulted in civilian casualties. He warned that these attacks represent a dangerous escalation and a serious threat to regional security, contributing to the continuation of the cycle of violence and complicating efforts to achieve peace in Yemen.
The UN envoy renewed his call on the Houthi group to cease its attacks and respect the provisions of international humanitarian law, including the prohibition on targeting civilians and civilian objects.
The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation had previously announced that 12 people were killed and 309 others injured in the attack on King Khalid International Airport on Saturday. (End) A.S.T. / M.A.A.
