Washington, Oct 11 (KUNA) -- The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the disabling of a Panamanian-flagged commercial cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman after it attempted to breach the naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports. In a statement posted on the X platform on Saturday, CENTCOM said its forces disabled the cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman after its crew ignored repeated warnings and attempted to break through the blockade. The statement clarified that a U.S. fighter jet targeted the stern of the ship, known as Ocean Mollica and also referred to as Arika Sun, using precision-guided munitions, which completely disabled the vessel’s propulsion system without harming the crew. It noted that the ship had been attempting to cross territorial waters after departing from an Iranian port. CENTCOM forces resumed enforcement of the U.S. blockade on all vessels seeking to enter or leave Iranian ports on July 14. According to the statement, CENTCOM disabled four commercial ships and forced 135 others to alter course and return during approximately three months of strict blockade enforcement.
