Bahrain Strongly Condemns Continued Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia, Reaffirms Full Solidarity with the Kingdom

Manama, October 10 (KUNA) -- The Kingdom of Bahrain expressed its strong condemnation and rejection today, Saturday, of the continued, despicable attacks launched by the Iran-backed Houthi militias against the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The recurrence of these attacks today constitutes a serious escalation and an extension of the despicable aggression that targeted the same airport two days ago.

In a statement, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that these brazen and cowardly attacks represent a blatant violation of the rules of international law, international humanitarian law, and the UN Charter. They constitute a serious and unacceptable escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region, as well as the safety of international civil aviation and its passengers and crews. Such acts also constitute a serious breach of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation and the resolutions of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The ministry reaffirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its complete and absolute support for all sovereign measures and legitimate steps taken by Riyadh to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and stability, protect its citizens and residents, and uphold its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. This support aligns with the obligations of member states under the Joint Defense Agreement of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), underscoring that the security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are an integral part of the security of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the GCC member states.

The ministry stressed Bahrain’s call upon the UN Security Council, ICAO, and the international community to fully assume their responsibilities and take firm, deterrent measures to halt the repeated Houthi terrorist attacks on civilians and civilian objects, including facilities and airports. It called for holding perpetrators and their supporters accountable and ensuring the full implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolutions 2216 and 2817, to safeguard regional and international peace and security.
