Chinese Foreign Minister Reiterates Commitment to Deepening Strategic Cooperation with France

Beijing, Oct 10 (KUNA) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed on Saturday his country’s commitment to deepening strategic cooperation with France across various fields, contributing to the consolidation of mutual trust, ensuring the development of bilateral relations, and promoting global peace, stability, and development. Xinhua News Agency reported that this came during the 28th round of strategic dialogue between the two countries, held in Beijing by Wang Yi with Emmanuel Bonn, the diplomatic advisor to French President Emmanuel Macron.

Xinhua quoted Wang as saying, “China is ready to maintain high-level exchanges and strengthen cooperation with France in traditional fields such as aviation, space, and nuclear energy, and to expand cooperation in emerging areas such as advanced manufacturing, green development, and artificial intelligence.” He expressed hope that France would provide a favorable business environment for Chinese companies and adhere to the “One-China” principle as the political foundation of China-France relations, emphasizing the need to intensify coordination between the two countries at the United Nations to build a more just and rational global governance system.

For his part, Bonn reaffirmed during the meeting his country’s desire to strengthen the historic friendship with China and continue building a robust, dynamic, and comprehensive strategic partnership based on mutual respect and trust. He also expressed his aspiration to deepen cooperation in agriculture, outer space, the internet, and new technologies, which would benefit the peoples of both countries. He pointed out that the latest round of trade consultations between China and the European Union was an important step toward a positive direction, stressing that Europe’s development needs China and that the European side has no intention of engaging in a trade war with China or seeking decoupling from it.

The meeting also featured an exchange of views on the Ukrainian crisis and the situation in the Middle East. (End) S.L.Q./A.M.S.
