UK Pledges to Continue Pressuring Moscow After US-Russia Agreement on Diesel
London, Oct 10 (KUNA) -- The British government pledged on Saturday to continue pressuring Russia by imposing the harshest sanctions regime in the United Kingdom’s history, a move widely seen as an implicit criticism of Washington’s announcement of an agreement with Moscow on diesel supplies. In a statement, the British government stressed that it would also continue to work closely with international partners to ensure Ukraine receives the military and financial support it needs to defend itself, thereby supporting efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace. It noted that Ukraine has repeatedly demonstrated its seriousness regarding peace, while Russia has rejected ceasefire proposals on several occasions, whether comprehensive or partial, and has continued its attacks on civilians and Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The statement emphasized that “Moscow can end this war today,” while reaffirming the United Kingdom’s full commitment to supporting U.S.-led efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, and its continued close coordination with Washington, Kyiv, and other allies in pursuit of this goal. Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had reached an agreement with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, for Moscow to supply millions of tons of diesel to the U.S. and global markets over the coming months, following a “very productive conversation” between the two leaders.
