Kuwait City, 10 October (KUNA) – The College of Science at Kuwait University hosted today, Saturday, an event under the umbrella of the Kuwait National Robotics Championship (KNRC), with the participation of approximately 90 girls, aimed at empowering girls and encouraging them to explore fields in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The “Girls Power” event, organized by the Department of Computer Science in collaboration with the Departments of Physics and Chemistry at the college, coincides with the International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on October 11, reflecting the College of Science’s commitment to nurturing scientific passion among girls from early educational stages.
Dr. Maha Al-Abdulkader, Chair of the Executive Committee of the Kuwait National Robotics Championship, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the event underscores the importance of providing girls with opportunities to discover their scientific and technical capabilities and to enhance their participation in fields that contribute to shaping the future. She added that holding the event in conjunction with the International Day of the Girl Child highlights the significance of investing in girls’ abilities from a young age, noting that collaboration among the scientific departments at the College of Science offers participants the chance to closely explore scientific applications and academic disciplines, thereby fostering their scientific curiosity and encouraging them to transform their ideas into innovations and practical solutions.
She explained that the event includes interactive scientific activities and experiments conducted by the Physics and Chemistry departments, enabling participants to learn about scientific concepts and their practical applications in daily life and modern technologies, while providing an educational environment that combines learning, discovery, experimentation, and teamwork. The event aims to introduce girls to scientific and technological disciplines, develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills, broaden their academic and professional horizons, and encourage them to pursue majors related to science and technology.
The event is an extension of the Kuwait National Robotics Championship’s objectives to identify national talents, develop students’ skills in scientific and technical fields, and strengthen collaboration among academic and educational institutions, thereby supporting the dissemination of scientific culture and reinforcing the role of science and technology in building a knowledge-based economy.
