Kremlin: Russian and US presidents discussed supplying global markets with oil and its derivatives

Moscow, Oct 9 (KUNA) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, discussed on Friday the supply of oil and its products to global markets, a move of growing economic and energy significance amid pressures on global fuel markets, supply chain disruptions, and rising prices. The Russian presidential administration (the Kremlin) said in a statement that President Putin held a telephone conversation with President Trump, during which they discussed developments in Iran and prospects for resolving the Ukraine crisis, as well as various aspects of bilateral relations, reaffirming Moscow’s readiness to supply the U.S. and global markets with oil and its products. The statement added that Putin expressed his belief that Russian oil supplies to the U.S. and global markets would have a positive impact on the global economy, emphasizing his country’s readiness to provide oil and its products to meet the needs of those markets. The Kremlin further stated in its announcement that the two presidents agreed to continue direct communications and to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two presidential administrations, security agencies, and relevant government bodies in both countries. In this context, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told the Russian news agency Tass that Moscow would immediately begin lifting restrictions on diesel exports, ahead of the previously scheduled date. He added that Russia views positively the U.S. steps aimed at stabilizing the global energy market and restoring normal trade in the energy sector. The Kremlin’s statement did not provide further details on the mechanisms for supplying oil products or the timeline for implementing the supplies mentioned by Trump. (End) D.A.N./M.A.H.A.
