London, Oct 9 (KUNA) -- British police released two individuals on bail after they were detained on suspicion of breaching the Royal Air Force’s Molesworth base in Cambridgeshire, eastern England, as investigations into the incident continue. The Metropolitan Police said on Friday that the two men, aged 32 and 36, were arrested in the early hours of Thursday, October 8, after being found inside the perimeter of the base. The police added that the two Latvian nationals, who reside in the United Kingdom, were taken to a police station in Cambridgeshire before being released on bail under strict conditions, while investigators continue their work. Molesworth base hosts U.S. intelligence operations in Europe and Africa, as well as the UK headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) intelligence apparatus. Meanwhile, Helen Flanagan, head of counter-terrorism policing in London, said authorities are aware of growing interest and concern over military sites in recent times, but she stressed that there is no evidence so far linking the incident to the event at RAF Fairford last week. She added that investigations are ongoing in cooperation with the British Ministry of Defence police and Cambridgeshire Constabulary. RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, western England, was the target of an attack on September 27 that is suspected to be “terrorist” in nature. Five British men in their mid-twenties were arrested on suspicion of explosives and terrorism-related offenses near the base before being released on bail. Additionally, a British citizen of Iranian origin was arrested on October 1 and also released on bail. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham had previously stated that there are “strong indications that Iran played a role” in the Fairford incident. (End)
