Palestinian Presidency calls on Security Council to take urgent action to provide international protection for the Palestinian people

Ramallah, October 9 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian Presidency called on Friday for the UN Security Council to assume its legal and political responsibilities and take urgent action to ensure international protection for the Palestinian people, halt settler attacks and operations by the Israeli occupation forces, and adopt deterrent measures to prevent the continuation of these violations.

In a statement published by the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa), the Presidency emphasized that the escalation of settler attacks, coinciding with Israeli military raids, killings, destruction, and forced displacement, reflects the severity of the phase the Palestinian people are undergoing. It stressed that this dangerous escalation demands immediate international intervention through concrete steps to stop these attacks and put an end to the continuous violations against Palestinian citizens across the occupied Palestinian territory.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, noted in the statement that 19 settler attacks were recorded since morning, targeting Palestinian farmers and olive harvesters, their property, including the burning of trees and vehicles, uprooting dozens of olive trees, and stealing livestock and crops. The attacks also involved assaulting Palestinian citizens and preventing them from accessing their lands.

Abu Rudeineh affirmed that this constitutes a dangerous indicator of the expanding scope of these attacks, which directly target Palestinian lives and livelihoods, and represent an attempt to impose a fait accompli, particularly during the olive harvest season. He added that settler attacks are not isolated incidents but occur within the context of the comprehensive war waged by the extremist Israeli occupation government against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, the latest of which has seen dozens of citizens martyred, hundreds injured, and the continued imposition of a comprehensive siege.

Abu Rudeineh stated that the West Bank is also witnessing continuous raids on cities, villages, and camps, home invasions and vandalism, the firing of live ammunition at citizens and farmers, and the confiscation of land and property, all under the protection provided by occupation forces to the settlers, which encourages them to continue and expand their attacks.

He warned of the dangers of continuing this escalation and its repercussions on the security and stability of the region, holding the occupation government fully responsible for the crimes and violations committed against Palestinians and for the consequences of its policies, which fuel violence, restrict the livelihoods of Palestinian citizens, and target their presence on their land with the aim of forcing them to emigrate.

The statement noted that the Palestinian Presidency has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State of Palestine Mission to the United Nations to request an urgent session of the UN Security Council and to take immediate action to adopt practical measures to provide international protection for the Palestinian people amid the dangerous and accelerating escalation of settler and Israeli occupation force attacks.
