Russia welcomes visit of US President's envoys and confirms talks between Putin and Trump soon

Moscow, Oct 9 (KUNA) -- Moscow welcomed on Friday the visit of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, envoys of U.S. President Donald Trump, affirming that Russian President Vladimir Putin is always ready to meet them and that talks between the Russian and American presidents will take place “soon.” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, in remarks cited by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, said Moscow had no information about the possibility of Witkoff and Kushner visiting Russia in October, but added that the Kremlin would welcome their visit if they decided to brief the Russian side on the results of their talks with Ukrainian representatives in the United States.
These remarks come amid U.S. diplomatic efforts to explore ways to end the war in Ukraine. News reports indicated that Witkoff and Kushner are scheduled to meet with Ukrainian representatives in Miami today to discuss new proposals and attempt to forge a unified vision for resolving the conflict, with participation from American and European officials.
Meanwhile, the Russian news agency TASS, citing a “well-informed American source,” reported that the talks would cover, among other topics, security guarantees for Ukraine and a plan to achieve economic prosperity after the war, as part of U.S. efforts to bridge the positions of the parties involved.
In a related development, the Kremlin clarified that participants in the summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) held in Turkmenistan did not address the war in Ukraine, according to RIA Novosti.
On the regional front, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran discussed forms of joint cooperation, including energy-sector collaboration, during a separate meeting on the sidelines of the Turkmenistan summit.
The Russian statements reflect ongoing communications regarding the Ukrainian file, as Washington seeks to coordinate proposed initiatives with Moscow and Kyiv, while the Kremlin has not specified a potential date for the American envoys’ visit to Russia this month. (End) D.A.N. / M.A.A.
